Possible Causes

Faulty hose presence switch, Damaged hose electrical contacts, Blocked hose air path causing overload, Control board sensing error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before attaching or removing the hose.

  • 1. Remove and reinstall hose: Detach the accessory hose and reattach it firmly until it locks. Ensure the latch is fully engaged.
  • 2. Inspect hose end and contacts: Some Bissell models use small electrical contacts or a mechanical switch at the hose port. Clean any corrosion or detergent residue with a dry cloth.
  • 3. Check for hose clogs: Look through the hose for blockages. Use a straightened coat hanger or flexible brush to gently push out debris, taking care not to puncture the hose.
  • 4. Test without hose: Run the unit in floor mode. If E7 only appears with the hose attached, the hose presence switch or hose assembly is suspect.
  • 5. Replace components: Replace the accessory hose assembly if the internal wiring or contacts are damaged. If the switch in the base is faulty, replace the hose port switch / sensor or the main control board as required.
