Possible Causes

Faulty tilt sensor, Stuck float in dirty water tank, Misaligned recovery tank lid, Control board sensor error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before inspecting tanks or internal sensors.

  • 1. Check machine position: Ensure the unit is on a flat, level surface and not being used on stairs or at an extreme angle.
  • 2. Inspect dirty water tank and float: Remove the dirty water tank and check the internal float. If stuck in the up position due to debris or dried soap, clean it with warm water until it moves freely.
  • 3. Reseat tank and lid: Make sure the recovery tank lid is properly aligned and latched. An improper seal can trigger overfill or tilt protection.
  • 4. Internal tilt sensor: Some models use a small tilt switch or mercury-free sensor on the main chassis. If the unit shuts off even when level and tanks are correct, the sensor may be faulty and require replacement.
  • 5. Control board: If replacing the tilt sensor does not resolve E9, the main control board may be misreading the signal and should be replaced.
