Possible Causes

Blocked air intake or exhaust, Clogged suction path, Overheated suction motor, Failed cooling fan or obstructed fan vents

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.

  • 1. Check filters and air paths
    • Remove and inspect the motor pre-filter and exhaust filter (HEPA or foam, depending on model).
    • Wash or replace clogged filters according to the Bosch user manual (ensure filters are completely dry before refitting).
    • Inspect the suction hose, wand, and floor nozzle for blockages; clear any obstructions.
  • 2. Inspect cooling vents
    • Check all ventilation grilles around the motor housing.
    • Vacuum dust and lint from vents; do not poke sharp objects into the motor area.
  • 3. Verify thermal cut-out reset
    • Some Bosch carpet cleaners use an automatic reset thermal protector on the motor.
    • After cooling, plug in and test; if the unit runs normally, overheating was the cause.
    • If it repeatedly trips, the motor or fan may be failing.
  • 4. Inspect suction motor and fan
    • Access the suction motor assembly (usually under the main body cover).
    • Check that the cooling fan spins freely and is not obstructed by debris.
    • If the motor is noisy, smells burnt, or has visible discoloration, it should be replaced.
  • 5. When to call a technician
    • If the error persists after cleaning filters and vents, a technician should test motor current draw and replace the suction motor or thermal protector as needed.
