Possible Causes

Faulty tilt sensor, Misaligned body position switch, Defective tank presence switch, Loose interlock wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner before inspection.

  • Check unit position: Ensure the cleaner is on a flat, level surface and fully upright. Some Electrolux models will not run if tilted excessively.
  • Verify tank installation: Remove and reseat both the clean and dirty water tanks. Make sure they click firmly into place and that tank lids are properly closed.
  • Inspect interlock switches: Look for small plunger or lever switches where the tanks sit or where the handle locks upright. Press them manually to confirm they move freely.
  • Check wiring: Follow the wires from the interlock switches and tilt sensor to the main board. Reseat connectors and look for broken wires.
  • Sensor replacement: If E9 persists and switches test correctly with a multimeter, the tilt sensor or interlock switch assembly may be faulty and should be replaced.
