Carpet cleaner will not power on; display shows E1 or power LED flashes once and goes dark.

Safety first: Unplug the Ewbank carpet cleaner from the mains before any inspection. Never work on a live appliance.

• Check the outlet: Test the wall socket with another appliance to confirm it has power.
• Inspect the power cord: Run your fingers along the Ewbank power cord looking for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. If damaged, the entire power cord assembly must be replaced.
• Test the power switch: Remove the handle or upper housing (per Ewbank service/owner manual). Locate the main on/off rocker or push-button switch. Check that the spade connectors are firmly attached. If the switch feels loose, melted, or does not click, replace the switch.
• Check the internal fuse (if accessible): On many Ewbank models, a small cartridge or glass fuse is mounted on the control PCB. Visually inspect for a broken filament or discoloration. Replace only with the same rating (amperage and type). If it blows again immediately, there is a deeper electrical fault and a technician should diagnose the control board.
• Reassemble and test: Refit all covers, ensure the recovery and solution tanks are seated correctly, then plug in and test.

If the unit still shows E1 or remains dead, the control PCB or wiring harness may be faulty and professional service is recommended.
