Possible Causes
Child lock feature engaged, Faulty safety interlock switch on tank or handle, Stuck interlock plunger, Damaged wiring to interlock switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure the unit is on a stable surface and unplugged before mechanical checks.
- Disable child lock: Refer to the Ewbank user manual. Typically, press and hold a specific button combination (e.g., power + mode) for several seconds to toggle the child lock.
- Check tank and handle interlocks: Many Ewbank carpet cleaners have micro-switches that detect when the handle is upright or when tanks are installed. Ensure the handle is in the correct operating position and tanks are fully seated.
- Inspect interlock plungers: Look for small plastic plungers or tabs that press on switches. Make sure they move freely and are not broken.
- Test again: After reseating components, plug in and try to start the unit.
If E10 persists, the interlock switch or control PCB input may be faulty and require replacement.
