Possible Causes

Blocked air intake filter, Clogged recovery tank float screen, Failing suction motor drawing excessive current, Obstructed exhaust vents

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the Ewbank cleaner and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.

  • Clean intake and exhaust: Remove the recovery tank and locate the intake filter and float screen. Rinse them under warm water and let them dry completely. Check the exhaust vents on the body and clear any lint or dust.
  • Check for overfilling: Ensure the recovery tank is not overfilled. An overfull tank can cause the float to block airflow and overheat the motor.
  • Inspect for blockages: Check the hose, wand, and floor nozzle for clogs. Remove any debris that could restrict airflow.
  • Ventilation: Make sure you are not using the cleaner in a confined space where exhaust heat cannot dissipate.

If E4 recurs quickly after cleaning and cooling, the suction motor or thermal sensor may be failing and should be inspected and replaced by a qualified technician.
