Possible Causes

Blown mains fuse in plug, Faulty power cord, Failed on/off rocker switch, Faulty main PCB or internal thermal fuse

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the George carpet cleaner from the mains before any inspection. Never work on a live appliance.

  • Check wall outlet and plug fuse: Test the outlet with another appliance. Remove the George's plug fuse and check/replace with the correct rating (usually 13A in UK models).
  • Inspect power cord: Look for cuts, kinks, or burn marks along the cable. If damaged, the entire power cord must be replaced; do not tape or splice.
  • Test the on/off rocker switch: Remove the top cover (after unplugging). Use a multimeter in continuity mode across the switch terminals while toggling it. Replace the on/off rocker switch if no continuity.
  • Check internal thermal fuse / PCB: Some George units have a thermal fuse or resettable cut-out on the motor or PCB. Inspect for a small inline fuse on the PCB. If open, replace with the exact type. If the PCB shows burn marks or swollen components, replace the main control PCB.

If you are not comfortable testing live-voltage components, contact a qualified technician.
