Possible Causes
Worn motor brushes arcing, Blocked airflow causing overheating, Shorted windings in motor, Slipping or burning drive belt in brush head
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Switch off and unplug immediately. Do not continue to run the machine with a burning smell.
- Check for blockages: Ensure all filters and airways are clear to prevent overheating.
- Inspect brush head: If smell is from the floor head, check for a jammed brush bar causing the drive belt to burn. Replace the belt and clear the jam.
- Inspect motor brushes: Remove and check the motor carbon brushes. Heavy sparking or very short brushes require replacement.
- Assess motor: If smell persists or there is visible smoke, the suction motor assembly is likely failing and should be replaced.
