Possible Causes

Blown internal line fuse on control board, Failed power cord or plug, Faulty main power switch, Loose wiring harness at control module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner from the wall outlet before any inspection. Never work on a live appliance.

  • Check outlet and cord: Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet to confirm power. Inspect the Hoover power cord for cuts, burns, or kinks. If damaged, discontinue use and replace the power cord assembly.
  • Test the power switch: With the unit unplugged, remove the handle or upper housing per the Hoover service manual. Locate the main power switch and check that the spade connectors are firmly attached. If the switch feels loose, cracked, or does not click, it may be faulty.
  • Inspect wiring harness: Follow the wiring from the cord entry to the control board. Look for burnt connectors, loose plugs, or broken wires. Reseat any loose connectors firmly.
  • Internal fuse: Many Hoover carpet cleaners have a small line fuse on the control PCB. If accessible, visually inspect for a blown fuse (dark or broken filament). Only replace with the exact same rating. If the new fuse blows again, stop and contact a technician—there is likely a shorted component.

If you are not comfortable opening the housing or working around mains wiring, contact a qualified service technician.
