Possible Causes

Failed solution pump motor, Blocked solution line or filter, Air-locked pump, Faulty pump driver circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and empty tanks before disassembly.

  • Check clean water and solution tanks: Ensure the clean water tank and solution tank are properly seated and filled. Verify that the tank valves at the bottom move freely and are not stuck.
  • Prime the pump: Refill the clean water tank, reinstall it, then plug in the unit. Hold the trigger for 30–60 seconds to allow the pump to prime. If water begins to flow, the error may clear.
  • Inspect solution filter and lines: Many Hoover carpet cleaners have a small in-line solution filter or mesh screen near the pump inlet. Remove and rinse under warm water. Check hoses for kinks or clogs and straighten or clear them.
  • Listen for pump operation: With the unit on and trigger pressed, listen for a humming sound from the solution pump. If silent, the pump motor or control board may be faulty. If it hums but no flow, the pump may be air-locked or internally damaged.

If cleaning and priming do not restore operation, the solution pump assembly or control board will likely need replacement.
