Possible Causes
Dirty water tank not seated correctly, Stuck float in recovery tank, Faulty tank presence microswitch, Damaged tank magnet or reed switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and empty tanks before inspection.
- Reseat tanks: Remove the clean water tank and dirty water recovery tank. Check for debris on the tank seals and seating surfaces. Reinstall firmly until they click into place.
- Check float movement: Open the dirty water tank and locate the float assembly. Ensure it moves freely up and down. Clean any soap scum or debris that may cause sticking.
- Inspect tank switches: Some Hoover models use a tank presence microswitch or magnetic reed switch. Verify that the actuator tab or magnet on the tank is intact and not broken. Clean the area around the switch.
- Test operation: Reassemble and power on. If the error clears when you gently press on the tank, the tank or switch alignment may be off and require adjustment or replacement.
If E5 remains after cleaning and reseating, the tank switch or associated wiring may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
