Possible Causes
Faulty power cord, Failed power switch, Open thermal fuse on motor, Loose internal wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Verify the outlet with another device. Unplug the cleaner before opening any panels.
- Check cord and plug: Inspect the Hoover power cord for cuts, burns, or crushed sections. Wiggle the cord gently at the plug and machine entry while plugged in (with the switch on). If power flickers, the cord is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Test power switch: Access the main power switch and ensure the connectors are tight. A switch that feels loose or does not click may need replacement.
- Inspect internal wiring: Look for disconnected spade terminals or burnt connectors between the cord, switch, and motor.
- Motor thermal fuse: Some Hoover motors have an inline thermal fuse. If open, the motor will not run. Replacing a thermal fuse requires correct rating and good soldering practice; if it blew due to overheating, also address blockages or motor issues.
If you are not experienced with electrical repairs, have a qualified technician diagnose and repair the power circuit.
