Possible Causes
Worn vacuum motor bearings, Debris in motor fan, Worn brush roller bearings, Loose motor mounting screws
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before opening any covers.
- Identify noise source: Run the unit briefly with the brush motor switched off (if possible). If noise persists, it is likely the vacuum motor. If noise only occurs with brush engaged, suspect the brush roller.
- Inspect brush roller: Remove the brush and check end bearings for play or roughness. Replace the brush roller or its bearings if worn.
- Check for debris: Open the motor compartment and inspect the motor fan for debris (screws, grit). Carefully remove any foreign objects.
- Tighten mountings: Ensure all motor mounting screws and brackets are tight to prevent vibration noise.
- Replace noisy motor: If bearings are clearly worn (screeching, burning smell), replace the vacuum motor assembly. Bearing replacement alone is usually not economical for domestic units.
