Possible Causes

Empty or incorrectly seated fresh water tank, Faulty flow sensor, Blocked solution line, Defective tank level switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine and remove both fresh and dirty water tanks.

  • Refill and reseat tank: Fill the fresh water/solution tank to at least half. Ensure it clicks firmly into place and that the bottom valve pin is not stuck.
  • Inspect tank level float: Some Kärcher tanks use a magnetic float and reed switch. Check that the float moves freely and is not jammed with scale or debris.
  • Check solution lines: Follow the clear solution hose from the tank to the pump and from the pump to the spray bar. Look for kinks, pinched sections, or crystallized detergent blocking the line. Flush with warm water.
  • Flow sensor check: If fitted, the flow sensor is usually in-line after the pump. Remove and inspect for debris. Clean the internal turbine gently with a soft brush and reassemble.
  • Test again: Refit tanks, plug in, and test spray. If E5 persists and no flow is detected, the flow sensor or level switch may need replacement.
