Possible Causes
Jammed brush height mechanism, Failed height adjustment motor, Faulty position sensor or potentiometer, Broken gear in actuator assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and place it upside down on a soft surface.
- Check for debris: Inspect the brush housing and height adjustment mechanism for stones, carpet fibers, or other obstructions. Remove any foreign objects.
- Manual movement: Gently attempt to move the height mechanism by hand (if accessible). It should move smoothly. If seized, the mechanism may need cleaning and lubrication or replacement.
- Listen for motor: When adjusting height (with the unit reassembled and powered), listen for the actuator motor. If it hums but does not move, suspect a jam or broken gear. If silent, test the motor and wiring.
- Position sensor: Some models use a potentiometer or hall sensor to detect brush position. Check its connector and mounting. Replace if readings are erratic (technician test).
