Possible Causes

Failed solution heater element, Open thermal fuse on heater, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Heater relay failure on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the Kobold carpet cleaner and allow it to cool completely. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination—do not work on the heater when the unit is plugged in.

  • Check for scale buildup: Heavy limescale can overheat and damage the heater. If accessible, inspect the heater chamber for scale and clean according to the service manual.
  • Test heater element: Disconnect the heater terminals and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Thermal fuse: Many heaters include a one-shot thermal fuse. Test for continuity; if open, replace with the exact rated part and investigate cause of overheating.
  • Temperature sensor: Check the NTC sensor mounted on the heater block. Verify its connector is secure. A failed sensor can cause E14 and disable heating.

If heater and sensors test good, the heater relay or control PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
