Possible Causes
Failed suction motor, Faulty motor triac or relay on PCB, Overheated motor thermal cut-out open, Loose motor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before opening any covers.
- Check for thermal cut-out reset: Some Miele carpet cleaners have a motor overheat protection. If the unit stopped during use, allow it to cool for at least 30–45 minutes, then try again.
- Listen for relay click: Plug in, switch on, and select a cleaning mode. If you hear the control relay click but the motor does not start, the motor or its wiring may be faulty.
- Inspect motor wiring: With the unit unplugged, remove the motor cover and check the wiring harness to the suction motor for loose spade connectors or burnt terminals. Reseat any loose connectors.
- Check for burnt smell or discoloration: If the motor housing is discolored or smells burnt, the motor windings may be damaged and the complete motor assembly should be replaced.
- Control board inspection: If the motor tests good (continuity across windings) but does not receive voltage when commanded, the motor drive circuit (triac/relay) on the PCB is likely defective and the PCB must be replaced.
