Possible Causes
Blocked air intake or exhaust, Clogged internal filters, Failed motor cooling fan, Faulty temperature sensor or thermal fuse
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before inspection.
- Check airflow paths: Inspect all air inlets and exhaust grilles for lint, pet hair, or dust buildup. Clean thoroughly with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Clean filters: If your Miele carpet cleaner has pre-motor or exhaust filters, remove and clean or replace them according to the user manual. Blocked filters cause overheating.
- Allow full cool-down: If the unit stopped mid-use, leave it unplugged for at least 45–60 minutes to allow the thermal cut-out to reset.
- Inspect cooling fan: Some models have a dedicated cooling fan on the motor. Check that the fan blades are intact and free of debris. Replace the fan if broken.
- If unit overheats quickly again: The thermal sensor or thermal fuse may be faulty, or the motor may be drawing excessive current. These components should be tested and replaced by a technician.
