Safety: Unplug before inspection.

Inspect brush area: Remove the brush cover and look for small stones, screws, or hard debris trapped near the brush or gears.
Tighten screws: Check all visible screws in the floorhead and brush housing. Tighten any that are loose.
Check bearings: Remove the brush roll and spin the end caps. If noisy or wobbly, replace the brush roll.
Gearbox inspection: If noise persists and seems to come from the drive side, the internal gears may be worn and the brush drive module should be replaced.
