• Check wall outlet and fuse: Test the socket with another appliance. Inspect and replace the plug fuse with the correct rating (usually 13A in UK) if blown.
• Inspect power cord: Flex the cord near the plug and where it enters the handle/base. Look for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. If damaged, the entire power cord set must be replaced.
• Test the on/off rocker switch: Remove the handle or top cover as per the user manual. With a multimeter set to continuity, test the on/off rocker switch terminals. Replace the switch if it does not close circuit when pressed.
• Check internal thermal fuse: On many Morphy Richards carpet cleaners, a thermal fuse is mounted on or near the motor housing or power PCB. If open-circuit, it has blown due to overheating. Replace with an identical temperature and current rating; do not bypass it.
• Inspect power PCB: Look for burnt tracks, bulged capacitors, or scorch marks on the main control PCB. If present, the board should be replaced rather than repaired at home.
