Possible Causes
Hair and fibres wrapped around brush roll, Seized brush bearings, Stripped drive belt between motor and brush, Failed brush motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the carpet cleaner and lay it on its side for access to the floor head.
- Remove brush roll: Detach the brush bar cover (usually held by screws or clips). Lift out the rotating brush roll.
- Clear obstructions: Cut away hair, threads, and carpet fibres from the brush and end caps. Ensure the bristles are free and not clogged.
- Check bearings and end caps: Spin the brush by hand. If stiff or noisy, clean and lubricate the brush bearings lightly, or replace the brush roll if bearings are sealed and worn.
- Inspect drive belt: Check the brush drive belt for cracks, glazing, or stretching. If loose or broken, replace with the correct Morphy Richards belt.
- Test brush motor: With the brush roll removed, briefly power the unit (if safe) to see if the brush motor shaft spins. If not, and power is present at the motor, the motor is likely faulty and needs replacement.
After reassembly, ensure the brush cover is fully latched; some models have an interlock that will trigger E05 if the cover is not seated.
