Possible Causes

Broken or slipped brush drive belt, Worn brush motor carbon brushes, Seized brush bearings, Faulty brush on/off switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine and tip it back or place it on a bench to access the brush deck safely.

  • Inspect drive belt: Remove the brush access cover and check the drive belt between the motor and brush. Replace the Nilfisk brush drive belt if broken, frayed, or loose.
  • Check brush rotation: Spin the brush by hand. If stiff, replace the brush cylinder or bearing end caps.
  • Test brush motor: If the belt and brush are OK, test the brush motor for continuity and inspect its carbon brushes. Replace worn carbon brushes or the complete motor as required.
  • Verify brush switch: Test the brush on/off switch with a multimeter. Replace the switch if it does not close when turned on.
