Possible Causes

Brush motor jammed by debris, Worn or seized brush bearings, Shorted brush motor, Faulty brush motor relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the machine from power and remove the recovery and solution tanks before working underneath.

  • Inspect brush deck: Tilt the Nilfisk carpet cleaner back or remove the brush deck cover. Check for strings, carpet fibers, or foreign objects wrapped around the brush or drive shaft. Remove all debris.
  • Check brush rotation by hand: Spin the brush cylinder by hand. It should rotate smoothly. If it is stiff or seized, the bearings or end caps may be worn. Replace the complete brush cylinder or bearing kit as specified for your Nilfisk model.
  • Test brush motor: Disconnect the brush motor leads and measure resistance across the motor terminals. A dead short (near 0 Ω) or open circuit indicates a failed motor. Replace the Nilfisk brush drive motor assembly.
  • Inspect wiring and relay: Check the harness from the control board to the brush motor for chafing or burn marks. If wiring is good and the motor tests OK, the brush motor relay on the main PCB may be faulty. Replace the main PCB/control module.
  • Reset and test: Some Nilfisk units require a power cycle to clear E02. After repairs, unplug for 1–2 minutes, reconnect, and test brush operation.
