Possible Causes
Blocked airflow in suction hose or recovery tank lid, Clogged vacuum filter, Failed vacuum motor, Open thermal protector on vacuum motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine. Do not run the vacuum motor with blocked airflow; it can overheat quickly.
- Check recovery tank: Remove the recovery tank and inspect the float shutoff assembly. If the float is stuck in the raised position due to dirt or foam, clean it thoroughly and ensure it moves freely.
- Inspect suction hose and tools: Disconnect the suction hose from both ends and check for clogs (coins, carpet fibers, etc.). Use a flexible brush or compressed air to clear blockages.
- Clean vacuum filter: Many Nilfisk carpet cleaners have a vacuum filter or screen in the recovery tank lid or inlet. Remove and rinse with clean water, then allow to dry before refitting.
- Allow thermal protector to reset: If the vacuum motor overheated, the internal thermal cutout may have opened. Leave the machine unplugged for 30–60 minutes to cool fully, then test again.
- Test vacuum motor: If E03 persists and the motor does not attempt to start, access the vacuum motor compartment. Check continuity across the motor terminals and thermal protector. If open after cooling, replace the Nilfisk vacuum motor assembly.
