Possible Causes

Open circuit in traction motor, Faulty traction controller, Broken drive lever or potentiometer, Damaged traction wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine and chock the wheels to prevent unintended movement.

  • Check drive controls: Inspect the traction control lever or speed potentiometer on the handle. Ensure it moves smoothly and the linkage is intact. Replace broken levers or worn potentiometers.
  • Inspect drive wiring: Follow the traction harness from the handle to the drive motor and controller. Look for cuts, crushed sections, or loose connectors. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Test traction motor: Disconnect the motor and measure resistance across its terminals. Compare to Nilfisk specifications. An open or shorted motor must be replaced.
  • Check traction controller: If the motor tests good and receives no voltage when the control is engaged, the traction controller module may be defective. Replace the Nilfisk traction controller.
  • Mechanical check: Verify that the drive belt and gearbox are intact and not jammed. Replace worn drive belts or damaged gearboxes.
