Possible Causes
Jammed brush roll, Broken brush drive belt, Failed brush motor, Faulty brush motor driver circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Philips carpet cleaner before accessing the brush area.
- Inspect brush roll: Turn the unit over. Remove the bottom brush cover (usually several screws). Pull out the brush roll and remove hair, threads, and debris from the bristles and end caps.
- Check drive belt: If your Philips model uses a belt between the brush motor and brush roll, inspect the belt for breakage, glazing, or stretching. Replace the belt if it is broken or loose.
- Check brush motor rotation: With the brush roll removed, try to rotate the brush motor shaft by hand (if accessible). It should turn smoothly. If it is seized, the brush motor must be replaced.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the brush roll and cover, ensuring the belt is correctly seated on both pulleys. Plug in and test. If E3 persists and the brush still does not move, the brush motor or its driver circuit on the PCB is likely faulty.
- Electrical testing (advanced): With the unit unplugged, check continuity of the brush motor. If open, replace the brush motor assembly. If the motor is good but never receives voltage when the brush is commanded on, the main PCB brush driver is defective and the board should be replaced.
