Safety: Unplug the machine before removing covers or touching wiring.

• 1. Listen for relay click: Turn the unit on and select vacuum mode. If you hear a click from the control board but the motor does not start, the issue is likely the vacuum motor assembly or its wiring.
• 2. Inspect motor wiring: Unplug the unit, remove the side or rear panel to access the vacuum motor. Check the spade connectors and harness for looseness, corrosion, or heat damage. Reseat or replace connectors as needed.
• 3. Check motor thermal protector: Many Rug Doctor motors have an internal thermal cutoff. If the motor overheated, it may open. Allow the unit to cool for at least 30–60 minutes and try again. If it repeatedly trips, the motor may be failing or the air path is blocked.
• 4. Test motor resistance: With the motor disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
• 5. Control board relay: If the motor tests good but never receives voltage when commanded on, the motor relay on the control PCB may be defective. Replace the control board as an assembly.

Note: Always clear any clogs in the suction path and ensure filters are clean to prevent future motor overheating.
