Possible Causes

Faulty tilt sensor or mercury switch, Loose tilt sensor wiring, Misaligned handle position switch, Damaged control PCB input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing internal components.

  • 1. Observe when E6 occurs: Note whether the error appears when the handle is raised, lowered, or when the machine is tilted back. This helps locate the relevant tilt or position sensor.
  • 2. Inspect handle switch: Many Rug Doctor models use a handle position microswitch. Remove the handle cover and check that the switch actuator is not broken or misaligned. Test the switch with a multimeter and replace if faulty.
  • 3. Locate tilt sensor: Some digital models use a small tilt sensor module on the main chassis. Check its mounting screws and wiring harness. Reseat the connector on the control board.
  • 4. Wiring continuity: Test continuity from the tilt/handle switch to the control PCB. Repair or replace any damaged harness sections.
  • 5. Control board input: If the sensors and wiring test good but E6 persists, the control PCB input circuit may be defective and the board should be replaced.

Note: Do not bypass safety tilt sensors; they prevent damage and spills when the unit is in an unsafe position.
