Possible Causes

Blocked suction path, Clogged brush head, Worn or jammed motor fan, Faulty motor current sensor on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off and unplug the carpet cleaner before clearing any blockages or opening covers.

  • Check for blockages: Remove the dirty water tank and inspect the suction inlet, nozzle, and internal channels for clumps of hair, carpet fibers, or debris. Clear all obstructions.
  • Inspect the brush head: Turn the unit over and remove any hair or threads wrapped around the brush bar. Ensure the brush rotates freely by hand.
  • Clean filters: Many Russell Hobbs carpet cleaners have a foam or mesh filter in the dirty water tank lid or suction path. Rinse and dry these filters thoroughly before refitting.
  • Allow motor to cool: If the unit has been used for a long period, let it cool for 30–45 minutes before trying again. Overheating can trigger E2.
  • If E2 returns immediately: The main suction motor may be drawing excessive current due to internal wear or a seized fan, or the current-sensing circuit on the control PCB may be faulty. Motor or PCB replacement is recommended via a service centre.
