Possible Causes
Activated tilt sensor due to recent tip-over, Stuck tilt switch, Moisture on safety sensor, Faulty tilt sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit, especially if it has recently tipped and spilled water.
- Dry the unit: If the cleaner tipped and leaked, wipe all visible moisture. Leave the unit in an upright position in a warm, dry area for 24 hours to allow internal sensors to dry.
- Reset position: Place the cleaner on a flat, level floor. Some models require being upright for several seconds to reset the tilt sensor.
- Power cycle: After drying, plug in and turn the unit off and on to clear the error.
- Internal sensor check (advanced): If E9 persists, open the housing and locate the tilt or spill sensor (often a small switch or mercury-free tilt device). Ensure it is firmly mounted and its wiring is intact.
If the tilt sensor is physically damaged or corroded, it should be replaced to restore safe operation.
