Possible Causes

Blown line fuse in control housing, defective main power switch, damaged power cord, loose line connector at control module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Stihl carpet cleaner from the mains before opening any covers. Never work on a live appliance.

Steps:

  • Check outlet and cord: Test the wall outlet with another tool. Inspect the Stihl power cord along its length for cuts, burns, or kinks. If the molded plug is heat-damaged, the cord must be replaced.
  • Inspect line fuse: Remove the upper housing or control cover (usually Torx screws). Locate the inline glass or cartridge fuse on the line input to the control module. If the fuse element is broken or blackened, replace it with the same rating (amperage and type).
  • Test power switch: With the switch disconnected, use a multimeter on continuity. The switch should read closed (0 Ω) in ON position and open in OFF. Replace the switch if readings are inconsistent.
  • Check line connectors: Verify that spade connectors from the cord to the switch and from switch to control module are fully seated and not heat-damaged. Reseat or replace terminals as needed.

If the new fuse blows immediately when powered, disconnect and have a technician check for a shorted motor or control module.
