Possible Causes

Brush roller jammed with debris, seized brush bearings, failed brush drive belt, overheated or shorted brush motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the cleaner and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before working near the brush head.

  • Clear obstructions: Turn the unit over and remove the brush access plate. Pull out hair, threads, and carpet fibers wrapped around the brush roller and end caps.
  • Check brush rotation: Spin the brush roller by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, remove the roller and inspect the end bearings/bushings for corrosion or melted plastic. Replace the brush roller assembly if damaged.
  • Inspect drive belt: Check the Stihl brush drive belt between the motor pulley and brush pulley. If the belt is broken, stretched, or glazed, replace it with the correct Stihl belt.
  • Reset overload: Some models have a manual reset button near the brush motor housing. Press firmly to reset. Reassemble, plug in, and test.

If E02 returns immediately with a free-spinning brush and good belt, the brush motor windings may be shorted and should be replaced by a technician.
