Possible Causes

Blocked air intake vents, clogged recovery tank float shutoff, overheating vacuum motor, defective thermal sensor on motor housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for at least 20 minutes before inspection.

  • Clean air paths: Inspect all cooling vents around the motor housing. Vacuum away dust and lint. Ensure the vents are not blocked by carpet fibers or accessories.
  • Check recovery tank float: Remove the dirty water tank and inspect the float shutoff assembly. If the float is stuck in the raised position due to sludge or foam, clean it thoroughly and ensure it moves freely.
  • Empty tanks frequently: Overfilled recovery tanks can cause the motor to pull water into the housing, increasing load and heat. Empty the tank before it reaches the max line.
  • Inspect thermal sensor wiring: Locate the thermal sensor or thermostat clipped to the motor housing. Ensure its wires are intact and the sensor is firmly attached to the metal surface.

If E05 persists with clean vents and normal use, the vacuum motor may be drawing excessive current and should be evaluated or replaced by a technician.
