Possible Causes

Corrupted control board firmware, failed main control PCB, loose display/control panel ribbon cable, moisture intrusion on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect from mains before opening the control housing.

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge. Plug back in and attempt to start. This can clear transient logic faults.
  • Inspect control connections: Remove the control panel cover and check the ribbon cable between the display board and main control PCB. Reseat the connector fully on both ends.
  • Check for moisture: Look for signs of water or detergent residue on the control board. If present, gently dry with a hair dryer on low heat at a safe distance and clean residue with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush.
  • Visual inspection: Examine the PCB for burnt components or cracked solder joints, especially around power relays and connectors.

If E06 remains after reseating cables and drying, the main control PCB will likely need replacement and programming by an authorized Stihl service center.
