Possible Causes

Blocked suction hose, clogged intake filter, faulty airflow sensor, cracked recovery tank or lid causing air leak

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before disassembling hoses or filters.

  • Check for blockages: Remove the suction hose from the floor head and from the recovery tank inlet. Use a flexible brush or compressed air to clear any clogs of lint or carpet fibers.
  • Clean intake filter: Many Stihl carpet cleaners have a foam or mesh filter at the tank inlet. Remove and wash with warm soapy water, then dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Inspect tank and lid: Look for cracks in the recovery tank body or lid. Ensure the lid gasket is intact and seated properly to maintain vacuum.
  • Airflow sensor check: Locate the airflow sensor (often a small pressure switch or flow vane in the suction path). Make sure it moves freely and its tubing is not blocked. Reseat its electrical connector.

After cleaning, test suction on a small area of carpet. If E10 persists with strong suction, the airflow sensor may need replacement.
