Possible Causes
Airlock in solution pump, Blocked solution line or spray jets, Failed solution pump motor, Loose or corroded pump wiring connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner and remove the clean water/solution tank before inspection.
- Check solution tank seating: Ensure the clean water/solution tank is filled and correctly seated. On many Vax models, a valve at the bottom of the tank must press onto a seal on the base. Reseat firmly until you hear/feel a click.
- Prime the pump: Refit the tank, plug in the machine, and (if safe to do so) hold the trigger for 30–60 seconds to allow the pump to draw solution. If no spray, stop and unplug.
- Clean spray nozzles: Remove the front nozzle/spray bar. Soak it in warm water with a little washing-up liquid. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear each jet. Rinse thoroughly and refit.
- Inspect solution hose: Check the clear solution hose from the tank to the pump and from the pump to the spray bar for kinks or pinches. Straighten or reroute as needed.
- Check pump wiring: Access the solution pump (usually near the base). Inspect the 2-wire connector for corrosion or looseness. Reseat the connector. If you have a multimeter, check for voltage at the pump when the trigger is pressed (machine plugged in and running – only for trained persons).
- Replace pump if failed: If the pump receives power but does not run or is noisy with no output, replace the solution pump assembly.
