Possible Causes

Hair and fibres wrapped around brush bar, Jammed brush bearings, Broken or stretched drive belt (belt-driven models), Failed brush motor (motorised brush models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the carpet cleaner before working near the brush bar.

  • Remove brush bar: Lay the machine on its back. Remove the bottom plate or access cover using a screwdriver. Carefully lift out the brush bar.
  • Clear obstructions: Cut away hair, threads, and fibres from the brush bar and end caps using scissors. Ensure the bristles are free and the bar spins smoothly by hand.
  • Inspect belt (if fitted): On belt-driven Vax models, check the drive belt for cracks, glazing, or stretching. If loose or broken, replace with the correct Vax belt.
  • Check brush bearings: Spin each end of the brush bar. If stiff, gritty, or seized, replace the brush bar assembly.
  • Test brush motor (if separate): For models with a dedicated brush motor, inspect wiring and connectors. If the motor does not run when powered (only for trained persons to test), replace the brush motor module.
  • Reassemble: Refit the belt (if used), brush bar, and bottom plate. Ensure everything is seated correctly before use.
