Possible Causes
Faulty tilt sensor, Loose tilt sensor mounting, Damaged wiring to tilt sensor, Control PCB misreading tilt input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before opening any covers.
- Check normal operating position: Ensure you are using the carpet cleaner in the correct upright or reclined position as specified in the manual. Some models will cut out if laid too flat.
- Inspect tilt sensor: Access the main body where the tilt sensor is located (often a small ball or mercury-type switch on a PCB). Check that it is firmly mounted and not loose.
- Check wiring: Inspect the wiring harness from the tilt sensor to the main PCB for damage or loose connectors. Reseat any loose plugs.
- Test sensor (for trained persons): Using a multimeter, check the sensor output while gently tilting the machine. If the sensor output is erratic or stuck, replace the tilt sensor module.
- Reassemble and test: Refit covers securely and test in normal operating position. If E9 persists, the main PCB may require replacement.
