Possible Causes
Tripped thermal fuse on boiler, Failed thermostat or thermal cut-out, Heavy limescale on thermoblock causing localized overheating, Blocked steam outlet or clogged nozzle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the machine and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before opening.
- Vent steam: If the machine was producing steam, open the steam knob (if present) after cooling to ensure no residual pressure.
- Clean steam outlets: Remove and clean the steam wand tip and any removable nozzles with a pin and hot water to ensure they are not blocked.
- Descale thoroughly: Run a full descaling cycle to remove scale from the boiler/thermoblock, which can cause hot spots and overheating.
- Inspect thermal devices: Access the boiler and locate the thermal fuse and thermostats. Check for continuity with a multimeter. Replace any open thermal fuse or thermostat with the exact AEG-specified part.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the machine’s ventilation slots are not blocked and that it is not installed in a confined cabinet without airflow.
