Possible Causes

Steam thermostat failure, Steam boiler or thermoblock scaled, Blocked steam wand nozzle, Faulty steam temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the machine and let it cool completely. Never attempt to open the steam circuit while hot or pressurized.

  • Clean steam wand: Unscrew the steam tip (if removable) and soak it in hot water with a little descaling solution. Use a fine needle to clear the nozzle holes. Wipe the wand with a damp cloth.
  • Run steam purge: With the tank full, power the machine, select steam, and open the steam knob fully for 20–30 seconds to purge air and minor blockages. If E05 appears immediately, stop and unplug.
  • Descale steam circuit: Run a descaling cycle that includes the steam function (consult Ariete manual). Alternate between hot water and steam to circulate descaler through the steam thermoblock.
  • Check for external kinks: If your model has an external milk tube, ensure it is not kinked or blocked with dried milk.
  • If E05 persists: The steam thermostat or NTC sensor on the steam block may be defective and must be replaced by a technician.
