Possible Causes
Worn group head gasket, Dirty coffee residues on gasket, Damaged or warped portafilter, Overfilled or overtamped coffee puck
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the machine to cool and release pressure before removing the portafilter.
- Clean gasket and portafilter: Remove the portafilter and wipe the group head gasket with a damp cloth to remove coffee oils and grounds. Clean the rim of the portafilter basket.
- Check coffee dose: Avoid overfilling the filter basket. Leave a small gap between the coffee puck and the shower screen.
- Inspect gasket: Look for cracks, flattening, or hardening of the rubber gasket. If damaged, it should be replaced.
- Test with empty basket: Lock the empty portafilter and run water. If it still leaks around the sides, the gasket or portafilter is likely worn.
- Replace gasket if needed: Group head gasket replacement is moderately simple but may require removing the shower screen; follow a service guide or consult a technician.
