Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before accessing the grinder. Sharp burrs can cut fingers.
Steps to diagnose E7:
- Check for obvious jams: Remove the bean hopper and inspect for stones or hard objects. Vacuum out beans and debris from the throat.
- Try manual rotation: With the hopper off and machine unplugged, gently try to rotate the upper burr carrier (if accessible). If it is locked solid, the grinder is jammed.
- Clear the jam: Remove the upper burr carrier according to the Ascaso service procedure. Clean both burrs thoroughly and remove any foreign objects.
- Inspect grinder switch/sensor: Some models use a microswitch or hall sensor to detect hopper or lid presence. Ensure the hopper is correctly installed and that the switch actuator is not broken.
- Check wiring: Verify that the grinder motor connectors are firmly attached and that there are no burnt or loose wires.
- Test motor: With a multimeter, check motor winding resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed motor that must be replaced.
When to replace: If the grinder remains inoperative after clearing jams and verifying switches and wiring, replace the grinder motor or complete grinder assembly as specified for your Ascaso model.
