Possible Causes
OPV set too low or stuck open, Scale buildup reducing boiler temperature, Faulty brew thermostat or sensor, Worn pump unable to build pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
User-level checks:
- Verify grind and dose: Ensure grind is fine enough and dose is appropriate for your basket size.
- Descale: Perform a full descaling cycle to restore proper heat transfer and flow.
Technical checks (unplug before opening):
- Measure brew pressure: Use a portafilter pressure gauge to check pressure at the group. It should be around 9–10 bar.
- Adjust or service OPV: If pressure is low, adjust the OPV to spec or replace it if it is stuck or leaking.
- Check pump performance: If the pump cannot reach target pressure even with a blind basket, replace the vibration pump.
- Verify temperature control: Check that the brew thermostat or NTC sensor is functioning and that the boiler reaches the correct temperature. Replace faulty components.
