Possible Causes

Grinder jammed with beans or foreign object, Grinder motor overheating, Grinder motor failure, Grinder lid safety switch not engaged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the coffee maker before accessing the grinder. Do not put fingers near the burrs or blades.

  • Check bean hopper: Remove the hopper and inspect for stones, hard objects, or oily bean clumps. Clear any obstructions.
  • Verify lid switch: Many Avanti grinders have a safety switch under the hopper lid. Ensure the lid is fully closed and that the switch actuator is not broken.
  • Clean the grinder: Use a small brush to remove coffee grounds from the burrs or blades. Do not use water inside the grinder housing.
  • Test after cool-down: If the grinder stopped mid-cycle, allow 20–30 minutes for the motor to cool, then test again. Some motors have internal thermal protection that resets after cooling.

If E8 persists and the grinder does not run freely, the grinder motor or its control circuit may need replacement.
