Possible Causes
Worn brew head gasket, Damaged or warped portafilter, Coffee grounds on sealing surfaces, Over-tightened or misaligned portafilter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the machine. Allow pressure to dissipate and the brew head to cool before removing the portafilter.
- Clean sealing surfaces: Remove the portafilter and wipe the brew head rim and portafilter gasket area to remove coffee grounds and oils.
- Inspect gasket: Look for cracks, flattening, or hardening of the rubber gasket in the brew head. Replace if worn.
- Check portafilter: Ensure the portafilter ears are not bent and that the basket sits flat. A warped portafilter will not seal properly.
- Proper locking: Insert the portafilter and lock it firmly to the recommended position, but do not overtighten, which can damage the gasket.
Persistent leaks after cleaning and correct locking usually indicate the need to replace the brew head gasket.
