Bialetti
End-of-Cycle Pressure Surge
Stovetop Bialetti Moka pot makes loud gurgling and sputtering noises and spits coffee near the end of brewing.

Possible Causes
Heat too high at end of brew, Low remaining water causing steam bursts, Overfilled coffee basket restricting flow, Safety valve partially obstructed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid placing your face or hands directly over the spout while brewing; hot coffee and steam can spurt out.
- Reduce heat: Use medium to low heat. As soon as coffee starts to flow steadily, consider lowering the heat slightly.
- Remove from heat early: When the upper chamber is about 80–90% full and the sound changes to a gurgle, remove the pot from the burner to avoid sputtering.
- Do not overpack coffee: Fill the basket level without tamping or compressing the grounds.
- Clean safety valve: Ensure the safety valve is clean and moves freely to relieve excess pressure safely.
Some gurgling is normal, but violent sputtering can be reduced by proper heat control and maintenance.
