Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the heat immediately and move the pot away from the burner. Do not cover the safety valve or attempt to block the spray.
- Allow to cool: Wait until pressure drops and the pot is cool enough to handle before opening.
- Check grind and fill: Use a medium-fine grind and do not tamp the coffee. Fill the basket level, not heaping, and do not press down.
- Correct water level: Fill the lower chamber only up to the bottom of the safety valve, never above.
- Clean or replace safety valve: From the outside, clean around the valve. If removable, unscrew and descale it in warm vinegar or descaler, then rinse thoroughly. Replace if corroded or stuck.
- Use moderate heat: Use medium heat so pressure builds gradually, avoiding violent boiling.
If the valve continues to discharge excessively, replace it with a genuine Bialetti safety valve.
