Possible Causes

Weak or failing heating element, thermostat opening at too low a temperature, poor contact between warming plate and thermostat, heavy scale reducing heat transfer

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug and allow the plate to cool before touching or disassembling.

Check settings:

  • Some Black+Decker models have adjustable keep warm settings; ensure it is set to HIGH or default.

Measure performance:

  • Brew a full pot and measure coffee temperature immediately; typical should be around 175–185°F (80–85°C).

Internal inspection:

  • Remove the bottom cover to access the warming plate heater and thermostat.
  • Check for loose mounting of the thermostat; it must be firmly pressed against the plate.
  • Descale the heating tube to improve heat transfer.

When to replace:

  • Replace a weak or open heating element if it does not reach proper temperature.
  • Replace a thermostat that opens too early or is out of specification with a correct-temperature warming plate thermostat.
