Possible Causes
Residue from manufacturing on internal plastic parts, dust or packaging material in water path, overheating of plastic due to dry run
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you smell burning plastic, unplug immediately and inspect for damage.
Initial cleaning:
- Before first use, run 2–3 full brew cycles with water only.
- Then run a cycle with a 1:1 vinegar and water mixture, followed by 2–3 water-only cycles.
Inspect for overheating:
- Check the underside and sides of the unit for discoloration or warping.
- Ensure the coffee maker is not run without water, which can overheat plastic parts near the heater.
When to replace:
- If the smell persists after thorough cleaning and there are signs of melted plastic, discontinue use and replace the affected housing or internal plastic components, or the entire unit if damage is extensive.
